GASTON, Ind. (March 1, 2016) – Police in Delaware County arrested a man accused of impersonating a police officer and forcing a woman to perform sexual favors on him.
According to the Gaston Police Department, John Mangus was arrested just after midnight Tuesday. Police said Mangus knocked on the door of a home and identified himself as a police officer.
A woman, thinking something was wrong, opened the door, realized Mangus wasn’t wearing a uniform, and tried to shut the door, according to court documents. Mangus then forced his way inside, police said, “stripped naked,” and ordered the woman to perform oral sex.
Police said Mangus grabbed the woman by the throat and told her he was going to kill her. He then told the victim that after he killed her, he was going to rape and kill her daughter, court documents said.
The woman was able to escape to a neighbors house and called 911. Police said the abuse last for more than one hour. When police responded to the woman's home, the man was still inside and was partially clothed.
"He seemed to be intoxicated, maybe on narcotics or something. I told him I was a police officer and he told me I wasn’t a police officer," explained Gaston Police Chief, Carl Barber.
Mangus was booked on several preliminary charges, including rape, strangulation, impersonating a public servant and residential entry.
