Muncie grandma faces neglect charge for second time in four months
MUNCIE, Ind. (March 1, 2016) – A grandmother in Muncie is facing neglect of dependent charges for the second time in four months.
According to court documents, a five-year-old boy left his home in the 400 block of South Council Street and walked about .2 miles to a home in the 600 block of West Powers Street. The boy told a woman who lives on West Powers Street that his grandma, Denise Renee Seats, 45, of Muncie, had been drinking and was passed out. The woman called police, and two officers took the boy back to his house.
It allegedly took five minutes of officers knocking on back and front doors to get a response from Seats. When Seats opened the door, she staggered and almost fell. Police said she appeared to be intoxicated.
Officers allegedly asked Seats where her grandson was, and she said he was in bed. Officers advised Seats that he was actually in their patrol car, and she told them he should be in bed.
Officers administered a breath test, and her BAC measured .168.
Seats was taken into custody and transported to the Delaware County Jail.
The five-year-old boy told police his grandma drinks often and it scares him. The boy also told police that he didn’t want to live with his grandma anymore. The officers took the boy to foster care.
