INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 1, 2015)- Indiana legislators will pay tribute to an Indianapolis principal who gave her life to keep students safe.

Tuesday morning resolution honoring longtime Amy Beverland Elementary School principal Susan Jordan will be read in the Senate Chamber.

The resolution, sponsored by Senator Jim Merritt reads in part:

"Whereas, Susan Jordan was a dedicated mother, sister, and educator who devoted herself to her family, friends, and especially her students;

 Whereas, Susan Jordan lived by the phrase "A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child."

Jordan died in late January after a school bus crash at her school.

Investigators say the bus jumped the curb and that Jordan pushed several students out of the way to keep them from getting hurt.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry called the crash a tragic accident and said it didn’t warrant criminal charges.

Jordan was the principal of Amy Beverland Elementary School for more than 20 years and was loved by her staff and students, both past and present.
