INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 16, 2016)-- A Westfield couple is relieved, Tuesday, after welcoming a baby girl on the side of the highway.
Jennifer and Justin Hill were on their way to Community North Hospital around 1 a.m. Jennifer's water had broken and she was having contractions. The couple thought they were going to make it, but somewhere between the Meridian and Keystone exits on I-465 eastbound, they realized the baby was coming faster than they expected.
"I was like, 'Oh this is happening!'" said Justin as he heard his wife scream during contractions.
He called 911 and pulled over on the side of the highway. Jennifer was in the front seat. She said she pushed twice and baby Loreili came out.
Moments later, Carmel firefighters arrived to help and the couple was immediately relieved.
"It was a little scary, honestly. I’m definitely not a trained medical professional," said Justin.
Carmel firefighter Will Mueller was busy trying to find blankets to keep the family warm in the car. Later that afternoon, he visited the family at Community North Hospital and formally met his tiny patient.
“I’ve been in the EMS service for a little bit and I’ve got to help with some stuff, but nothing like that. So it was very rewarding,” said Mueller.
Jennifer expressed her thanks to the firefighters and the 911 dispatchers who helped.
“When you guys showed up, and everyone showed up I was thinking 'Okay, this is going to be okay.'"
The Hills already have two kids and after this chaotic morning, they said Loreili might be their last!
“She definitely has a mind of her own,” said Jennifer as she held her happy, healthy baby girl.
