INDIANAPOLIS (February 10, 2016) – Firefighters with the Indianapolis Fire Department spent their morning battling flames and freezing temperatures on Indy’s east side.

Crews responded to a vacant home in the 6200 block of East 26th Street on the city’s east side shortly after 4 a.m.

Firefighters on scene say icy roads were a concern, but there were no hydrant issues. At this point, investigators still trying to determine what caused the fire but say it caused about $70 thousand in damage.

Earlier this morning, crews responded to another fire on the east side that destroyed a barbershop.

Around midnight, fire crews responded to “Lefty’s Barber Shop” near 38th Street and Arlington Avenue.

Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire, but say the building was being renovated. The fire caused about $200 thousand in damage. Firefighters say cold temperatures and icy pavement made fighting the blaze more difficult, but there were no injuries.
