Woman loses more than 170 pounds, inspires others
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (February 1, 2016) – A woman is celebrating a big milestone in her fitness journey. Monday marks one year since Toni Wheatley decided to lead a healthier life. She dropped more than 170 pounds so far.
“I’m fit and over 40, baby!” Wheatley said.
Wheatley is now the person in the front of the room at the gym. She teaches Zumba classes and hopes to inspire others to be more active.
“Just believe in yourself,” Wheatley said. “Change your mind, body and your soul. Don’t change one and not the other two. “
But, getting to this point did not come easy for her. Wheatley weighed 347 pounds on February 1, 2015. She said she could not do a single push-up when she started working out.
“I’d be hurting so bad and crying in the morning not wanting to get up,” Wheatley said.
She was able to find encouragement in the ladies who attended her fitness classes.
“I felt like it was such a team effort,” she said. “When they could up to me and say you inspire me, I would say you inspire me. You’re my class. We are all here.”
Wheatley attributes her weight loss to changing her eating habits and committing to working out on a consistent basis.
A look around Wheatley’s workout classes and you see women of all ages and sizes. Some ladies are just getting into the habit of working out and others are regulars. They know Wheatley understands their struggle – even when she practices some tough love.
“When I push them, I’m doing it with them,” Wheatley said. “They see my vulnerabilities, they know where i haven’t arrived yet.”
