100-year-old woman killed in Jackson County car accident
JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. (January 18, 2016) – A 100-year-old woman was killed and two others were injured in a Jackson County car accident on Sunday.
Indiana State Police responded to the scene of a personal injury accident around 5:30 p.m. on I-65 southbound near the 36 mile marker, just south of Crothersville.
An initial investigation indicates that Richard Gulbis, 74, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, was driving a 2006 Buick Rendezvous, when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the west side of the roadway and overturned. Gulbis and his wife, Sharon Gulbis, 72, of Kalamazoo, Michigan were both injured and transported to University of Louisville Hospital with serious injuries.
Sharon’s mother, Eleanor Burklow, 100, of Portage, Michigan was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Dropping temperatures and a light snow falling in the area may have been contributing factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
