Mother and two children rescued from flooded road

GREENCASTLE, Ind. (December 27, 2015)–A mother and her two young children were rescued from flood waters near Greencastle, Sunday afternoon.

Shortly after 2 p.m. Greencastle Fire Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a vehicle that had stalled out in high water on Putnam County Road 100 East, south of Crows Bridge.  That scene is east of Greencastle.

A mother and her two children were trapped inside their vehicle on the flooded road.

Rescue crews using ropes and wearing flotation devices were able to walk out to the car to rescue the mother and carry the children to dry land safely.

The rescue took about ten minutes.

Flooding was occurring over much of Putnam County.  High water signs were posted at numerous flooded road locations and several bridges had to be closed.

Putnam County Emergency Management urge motorists to use extreme caution in areas of lowland flooding over the next several days.   Motorists are advised to be aware of their surroundings and select a route with higher ground.
