MUNCIE, Ind. (December 6, 2015) – A Muncie couple was arrested after police say they sold heroin to an undercover officer with a 6-year-old boy in the backseat. And according to police they got the drugs from a Pizza Hut employee on her break.
On December 5 around 2 p.m. deputies from the Delaware County Drug Task Force contacted Jennifer Ailes, 28, about buying $150 worth of heroin from her friend Jade Voiles, 26.
According to court documents, Ailes met up with a deputy at a Shell gas station. She was accompanied by her boyfriend, Troy Littell, 31, and her 6-year-old son.
The group drove to the Pizza Hut in the 2700 block of South Madison. Voiles texted Ailes to tell her she couldn’t leave the building until her break. Deputies say Voiles purchased the heroin from another dealer and brought the drug back inside the restaurant.
At around 4:22 p.m. Voiles texted Ailes to tell her she was ready. Ailes exited the car with her 6-year-old son and entered Pizza Hut. Voiles handed the heroin to Ailes and walked back inside the restaurant.
"It definitely sounded like they were comfortable with the kid there. It sounds like they had done this in the past and there was no hiding it," said an undercover deputy with The Delaware County Sheriff's Department.
As the group drove away, officers conducted a felony traffic stop. Deputies arrested Voiles and Littell and took them into custody. Voiles’ son was extremely frightened so police let the boy sit with his mom in the sheriff’s cruiser.
Officers then went back to Pizza Hut and took Voiles into custody. Court documents say Voiles confessed to everything. But neither Littell nor Ailes cooperated with the investigation.
“We just thought it would be simple, pick up our undercover deputy, take him to a gas station to purchase heroin and this turned into something a lot bigger than we expected," the deputy said.
Deputies said they evaluated the sting operating when finding out a child was inside the car. They determined no firearms would be used and that the child was safe in the car, since he was sitting next to an undercover deputy.
Voiles was charged with possession and dealing a narcotic drug. Ailes was charged with possession and dealing a narcotic drug, possession of a syringe, and neglect of a dependent. Little was charged with possession and dealing a narcotic drug and possession of a syringe.
The 6-year-old boy was released to a family member.
