Deer crashes through windshield, ends up in vehicle’s back seat

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (Nov. 20, 2015) – A Bartholomew County woman suffered serious injuries after her SUV hit a deer, causing the animal to fly through the windshield to the back of the vehicle.

The crash happened around 5:50 p.m. Thursday at 2765 W. Carr Hill Road, according to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators found the driver, Amy Baker, 41, Columbus, unconscious with head injuries. Her husband, a passenger in the vehicle, said they hit a deer, causing them to run off the road and through a tree line before coming to a stop.

Deputies said the deer hit the front of the vehicle, flew over the hood and then went through the windshield. The animal ended up in the back of the vehicle.

Baker was airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition.
