One person dead after multi-vehicle crash on I-70 in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY, Ind. (Nov. 13, 2015) — An Indianapolis man was killed Friday night in a crash involving nine semis and five passenger vehicles on Interstate 70 westbound in Henry County.

Traffic had been stopped for a construction zone at the 123 mile marker. Joseph D Buie, 43, crashed his semi into the back of stopped traffic at the 127 mile marker around 8:20 p.m. Buie was pronounced dead at the scene by the Henry County coroner.

Following the crash, a truck hauling coal burst into flames as it ran into the rear of multiple vehicles. The truck was fully engulfed in flames when officers arrived. The occupants of that truck were transported with serious injuries by medical helicopter.

In total, five medical helicopters were summoned to the scene, and four of those medical helicopters transported patients to Indianapolis area hospitals.
