COLUMBUS, Ind. (Nov. 2, 2015) – Police arrested a Columbus man accused of forcing his way into an apartment and robbing a resident over the weekend.

According to the Columbus Police Department, officers received a call around 3 a.m. Saturday about a robbery in the 3100 block of Sycamore Drive. A resident said a man with a gun forced his way inside his apartment and ordered him to “empty his pockets.”

The thief took the victim’s cell phone, pants and a pack of cigarettes, police said. The victim then went to a nearby convenience store to call 911 and report the theft.

Investigating officers arrived at the victim’s apartment building, where they heard a disturbance. A resident said two men were fighting in his bathroom; he asked officers to remove them.

Police found Joshua Olmstead, 25, inside the bathroom. He was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on charges of robbery and residential entry.

A second man found inside the bathroom was unresponsive but breathing, police said. After officers administered a dose of Narcan, the man regained consciousness. Paramedics took him to Columbus Regional Hospital.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.
