Police: Social media dispute prompts argument, shooting in Anderson
ANDERSON, Ind. (Oct. 16, 2015) – A 24-year-old Anderson man was hospitalized after an argument erupted in gunfire Thursday afternoon.
Anderson police responded to the 2000 block of Jefferson Street around 12:45 p.m. regarding a fight involving a firearm. A 911 call said someone had been shot.
According to witnesses, 19-year-old Cody Funk and a juvenile were walking at East 20th and Jefferson streets when a Chevy Impala pulled up next to them. Two men exited the vehicle and an argument turned physical.
Investigators are still working out the sequence of events that followed, but they believe the argument stemmed from a social media dispute. At one point during the fight, Funk fired multiple shots with a rifle, striking a 24-year-old man at least once in the chest.
The victim and an acquaintance got back into the car and the driver took off toward St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital, police said. The juvenile accompanying Funk then fired several shots at the car, hitting it at least once.
Funk faces a preliminary charge of aggravated battery, police said, and the juvenile with him also faces criminal charges. The driver of the car, identified as Tiffany Jones, 19, will not face charges. One of her passengers, Aaron Floyd, 22, left the vehicle after they arrived at the hospital. Police said Floyd has an outstanding warrant for a probation violation and want to question him about the incident.
Police have not released the shooting victim’s name. He was treated at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital before being airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital.
