Third Anderson police dog dies in three years
ANDERSON, Ind. (August 30, 2015)–For the third time in as many years, an Anderson Police Department K-9 unit has lost one of its police dogs.
Truman, a 6-year-old Belgian Malinois, had to be euthanized following cancer complications. The police dog was partnered with Anderson police officer Darron Granger.
Two other Anderson police dogs were killed two months apart in 2012 while attempting to apprehend suspects.
The department will look to replace Truman to bring the department’s K-9 dog unit back to four.
A statement posted on the department’s Facebook page read, “We would like to express our gratitude to Truman for his faithful service to the Anderson Police Department and the citizens of Anderson. Please remember his handler, Officer Darron Granger, as he deals with the loss of his partner.”
