GREENCASTLE, Ind. (August 14, 2015) -- The community of Greencastle is upset and angry after vandals tagged three churches. Vulgar messages were spray painted on the churches, now the community wants to know who did it.

Spray painted statements "Die with your false God" and "die" were left on the front doors of First Southern Baptist Church on Crown Street. Over the sign, there were the words "God hates you."

Someone from the church reported it to police early Thursday morning. During the investigation, the vandalism to the two other churches was discovered. Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church had what's thought to be an upside down cross on its sign. Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church had the words "Die with God" and "filth" left on their property.

Sandy Masten, the daughter of the pastor for First Southern Baptist Church, has a message for the vandals.

"Even though they may think they weren't seen, they were seen. God sees all things and he knows, but this is a strong community and I think we'll all move forward," Masten said.

Even those who live in the community, like Joe Garrison, agree the vandalism is heartbreaking, but he says it won't bring them down.

"It'll only make them stronger, it'll only make the community stronger," Garrison said.

Police say they are watching surveillance video from DePauw University and a nearby elementary school to see if that can help find whoever is responsible. A person of interest was interviewed, but no charges have been filed.
