NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (July 14, 2015) – The city of Noblesville is looking to modify several school zones and make traffic changes.

“The request was a request from the school system,” said John Beery, City Engineer. “Over the years, school times have changed and the primary reason for the switch was to make the school zone timings match the timing of the start and stop of school.”

One school zone could increase the speed limit.

“There were some improvements done to Stony Creek Elementary School. A new acceleration deceleration lane was put in over the last few years. That’s one we’ve gotten some complaints about actually being too slow, so it’ll go from 20 to 25.”

The changes were introduced in June and Beery says they should be approved at the Noblesville Common Council Meeting Tuesday night.

“We’re actually in the process of changing some of the wording on the signs to help clarify that school zones are only active on school days and when beacons are flashing.”

“An additional primary reason for the switch was the balanced calendar caused some confusion exactly when school zones are operational and when not, so we actually changed the wording.”

Beery says he looked at a lot of different factors.

“We looked at the area they’re in, if it’s an area a lot of people walk in, if it’s a pick up and drop off school only.”

He hopes this will clear up any confusion and allow traffic to move easier when school is not in session.
