Hit and run on interstate sends eight to hospital in Clinton County
CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. (June 19, 2015) — Indiana State Police are continuing to investigate an accident along I-65 near State Road 28 in Clinton County that sent eight people to the hospital.
The accident occurred just before 8:30pm Thursday night in the north bound lanes of I-65 when a minivan was traveling northbound in the right lane and was slowing due to traffic. An Escalade was also northbound behind the minivan and allegedly was unable to slow and ran off the roadway on the left side. The Escalade then came back onto the interstate and struck the minivan on the left side, forcing both vehicles to leave the roadway on the right. The minivan then struck a large highway sign and came to rest in the ditch.
Police reported that the Escalade then left the scene without checking on the well-being of the driver or passengers inside the minivan. The Escalade was later stopped by Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department Deputies at US 231 near South River Road near West Lafayette, IN.
The driver of the minivan sustained neck and head injuries while his wife reported some concerns with her neck and back. The six children, ranging in ages from 1 to 14 years old, were all checked and appear to have suffered only minor injuries. The investigation is continuing with assistance from Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department.
