MUNCIE, Ind. (June 17, 2015) - Six children in Muncie are without their mother. She is in jail, after police say she overdosed on cocaine, while her six children watched.
Muncie Police responded to the Sunshine Café at 11:20 p.m. last Thursday, where they found a 29 year old woman foaming at the mouth, overdosing on drugs, her six kids standing with her.
“I just don’t understand how somebody could do that with their kids with them,” said one Muncie mother, horrified at learning what had happened in front of the restaurant she’d just eaten at.
“I mean you see drug abuse every day but it’s different when you have your kids with you I think,” she said.
Charity Lekeia MarieBrown, a 29 year old mother of six, from Muncie, police say was found in the restaurant’s parking lot Thursday, sweating, foaming at the mouth, and barely able to speak. Brown, police say, was overdosing on cocaine.
According to court documents, while inside the restaurant, she’d made repeated trips to the bathroom, where investigators found an empty plastic bag. Another bag was found in her purse, filled with a white powdered substance.
“Well, I mean, s***, it is what it is, I mean it happened. Don’t nobody know the demons that everybody else rationing with. I mean my wife, 29 years old taking over 50 pills a day,” said Brown’s husband when we arrived at their home.
Brown’s husband said his wife’s overdose was a suicide attempt. Their six children according to Brown’s husband are in the care of a family member.
Brown now faces three felonies, including the neglect of a dependent, and possession of cocaine.
Brown was taken to the Delaware County jail on Monday after she was released from the hospital. She’s being held there on $17,500 bond.
