BROWNSBURG, Ind. (June 3, 2015) -- Brownsburg police are looking for a jewel thief. Detectives say a man walked into a local antique shop and walked out with thousands of dollars in antique jewelry. The owner of Total Recall Antiques says the man made it seem like he knew exactly what he was after. He was grabbing things right and left from the jewelry case. However, a surveillance camera pointed at him caught it all.
The gutsy robbery happened in the middle of the day on May 16. The thief came in, made friends with owner Deborah Petersen and asked about her merchandise. Right around that time, Petersen says a woman came in and asked her to the back of the store to inquire about a portrait. Petersen thinks the woman was distracting her so the man could go to work and steal some high-priced jewelry adding up to nearly $5,000. Eventually, both people left the store.
Petersen says she is now considering closing her store.
"It's damaging to my psyche," Petersen said. "I don't want to be suspicious of everyone, but I am."
