MELBOURNE, FL (June 4, 2015) – An 8-year-old boy withstood bullying from classmates and judging looks from strangers for two years in order to help kids in need.
Christian McPhilamy says a St. Jude Children’s Hospital changed his life. According to WGN, he was inspired by the commercial to grow out his hair and donate it to the ‘Children with Hair Loss‘ foundation.
According to Christian’s mother Deeanna Thomas, his classmates bullied him and called him a girl, but he persisted in his mission.
“He has endured an awful lot of criticism, and yes even bullying, throughout this time. From his peers calling him a girl to even coaches and family friends telling him he should cut it or offering him money to,” said his mother on Facebok.
It took Christian two years to reach his goal. He donated four 10-inch ponytails.
Deeanna posted photos of her son to Facebook throughout Christian’s journey, and she expressed pride in her son and praised his selflessness.
“He has never once, strayed from his goal and always took the time to educate others on why he made the choice to grow his hair. I am one proud mommy as always,” Deeanna wrote.
