INDIANAPOLIS (June 2, 2015) – Children on the west side of Indianapolis will soon have a new playground.

Kiwanis broke ground Monday with officials from Hawthorne Center and IndyParks on a playground at Hawthorne Park. It’s the seventh such playground built in the U.S. as part of Kiwanis’ centennial year.

The group was primarily responsible for raising $125,000 for the project in conjunction with KaBoom and Snapple. Kiwanis officials said the project will help the entire west side community.

“We chose this playground because this is an area that we really see has fantastic potential,” said Jim Smith with Kiwanis.

The playground is expected to be completed at the end of the month. A dedication is planned for June 27 during the Kiwanis International Convention and 100th anniversary celebration.

The neighborhood will also benefit from an “extreme neighborhood cleanup” on June 24, when Kiwanis Circle K members help beautify the area.
