(May 25, 2015) – Police are investigating the death of an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officer.

Police were called to the 8600 block of Ingalls Lane on Indy’s southwest side just before 10 a.m. Monday.

Police identified the body as that of a northwest district IMPD officer. At this time, foul play is not suspected.

“It’s a very tough situation. We have a lot of officers that are grieving themselves and family that’s grieving," said IMPD Sgt. Kendale Adams.

The officer, who hasn't been identified, was an officer for 15 years. People who live in the community say he was friendly and an ideal neighbor.

“When you hear about this kind of stuff, it’s always somewhere else, but when it’s across the street from you, that’s not somewhere else, that’s here," said neighbor Randy Parmerlee.

This is the second death investigation at the southwest side home since April.

According to a police report, officers responded to the same home on April 5th. They found an "unresponsive male," later identified as 34-year-old Aaron Barnes. The report said used duct tape and chloroform were seized from the home.

Sgt. Adams said that investigation is ongoing and would't say if it's being investigated as suspicious. He said they are still waiting on a coroner's reporter before releasing the cause of death.
