INDIANAPOLIS (May 5, 2015) - Indianapolis mayoral candidates Joe Hogsett and Chuck Brewer both won easy victories in the May primary Tuesday night, setting up their head-to-head battle this November.

Hogsett, a Democrat, handily defeated challenger Larry Vaughn.

"I ask you to give me a chance, to hear me out and to size me up. I run to be a mayor of ideas, not a mayor of ideology," Hogsett said.

The former U.S. Attorney has been campaigning for some time, racking up donations and support from the Democratic-led city-county council.

He presents a sizeable opponent for Brewer, a restaurant owner who has never run for office. He does have the benefit of current Republican Mayor Greg Ballard on his side. Ballard donated a sizeable amount of his own money to Brewer's campaign.

Brewer beat four other Republican candidates to claim victory on the GOP side.

"I’m here before you today because I very strongly believe that a politics as usual approach will not help us solve these problems. We need a fresh, business-minded, innovative approach," Brewer said.

Both men made it clear, the race to November is on. Voters can expect a lot of campaigning on both sides leading up to the general election.
