INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 29, 2015)- The 500 Festival is kicking off in a big way downtown. On Wednesday, spectators and local leaders all gathered to watch Colts Player Pat McAfee kickoff the month of May festivities.

"Whenever you come to Indianapolis, the first thing you learn is that Hoosiers are die hard race fans and when I was asked to be part of the 500 Festival for the month of May, I was so excited," McAfee said.

It's the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500. There are a few things fans can look forward to this year, including new video boards throughout the track.

"We are running video through it, so live video. That’s going to change the way that our fans view and experience the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, so that’s going to be a lot of fun," said Doug Boles, Indianapolis Motor Speedway President.

The month-long festival isn't just about the race and parades.

"The amount of amazing things that happen in Indianapolis for many different charities and just for the people of Indiana, the whole month is fun, so I’m looking forward to it all," McAfee said.

“In this city, it’s more than just the event. We give back as we do it. We come together as we do it and that’s what the festival does," said Mayor Greg Ballard.
