Teens, adults arrested after underage drinking party busted in Greenwood
GREENWOOD, Ind. (April 13, 2015) -The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department arrested multiple teens after busting an underage party over the weekend in Greenwood. They were called to the home on Arden Place after a concerned neighbor saw cars lining the street.
Sheriff Doug Cox says the teens ages ranged from 16 to 19. Most of them were drunk. Nineteen adults were arrested and brought to jail. Ten juveniles that had been drinking, were released to parents. The homeowners were not there during the party. Sheriff Cox said parties like this are not uncommon.
“This time of the year, they tend to pick up a little bit towards the end of school, so we are aggressive in enforcing these and ensuring that people that have committed a crime do in fact go to jail,” said Sheriff Cox.
He said with social media and neighbors on the lookout, it’s even easier to get caught and this summer, deputies will be on patrol.
“They think it’s going to be discreet, but when the cars start lining up on the street, it doesn’t take long for neighbors to know something’s not right,” Cox said.
Neighbors are asked to continue to be on the lookout for parties and underage drinking. Cox said it’s not only dangerous, but deadly for teens who drink too much.
“You see a lot of athletes that lose athletic careers because of this type of thing and really, it’s a waste of, there’s a lot of good kids out here that are just making dumb mistakes,” Cox said.
