INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 11, 2015) - Neighbors in one community are on alert after finding their cars with bullet holes and shattered glass. It happened late Friday night on the city's Northwest side.
James Thomson says he was in the back seat of a car driving on 46th Street near the intersection of Brookhollow Blvd. That's when he heard a loud popping noise and looked over to see glass shattered on the window next to him.
“We were just coming back from my birthday dinner and we were driving on 46th Street and I was sitting back here with the window down," Thomson said.
He said it was likely a pellet or BB gun that hit the window. He said it was a close call because he had the window rolled down.
“They could have got me pretty much right in the face," he said.
Thomson told his friends to drive off fast. That's because he thinks the shot was fired by someone inside another car.
"The car was coming directly at us and as soon as it passes we hard a loud pop, so I think someone must have shot out the side of the window and hit it," said Thomson.
He filed a police report and soon after he got home, found his friend's car with shattered glass as well. He believes it was completely coincidental that his friend's car was also shot in the same area and doesn't believe they were targeted. He thinks the person who shot at the car he was in, is the same person who shot his friend's car.
“It’s a small, quiet community. There’s no crime here at all and this just happens to not one, but two of our cars," he said.
