Check your health on Diabetes Alert Day
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Health officials are asking everyone to check their risk for Type 2 Diabetes during “Diabetes Alert Day.”
The American Diabetes association says 750,000 Hoosiers are living with diabetes and 95% of those people have Type 2, the type that can be prevented. Many of those people are not even aware that they have diabetes. Several factors can put you at risk, including family history and your activity level.
On Tuesday, The ADA is teaming-up with Marion County Public Health to offer free glucose testing at two Indianapolis Walgreens locations:
Walgreens at 16th and Meridian from 6:00 am -10:00 a.m.
Walgreens at 86th and Michigan from 1:00 pm – 5:00 p.m.
The ADA also wants people to take a quick risk test online here, where you can see if you have any of the primary risk factors for Type 2 Diabetes.
ADA employees say studies have shown, by losing just 7% of your body weight, you can make a difference in your diabetes risk.
