Man, 69, gets punched after finding thieves stealing from his home
ANDERSON, Ind. (March 12, 2015) – A 69-year-old man was punched in the face when he caught thieves breaking into his home. The burglary and assault happened Wednesday afternoon when the man came home for his lunch break around noon.
“He found a strange vehicle in his driveway. Initially, he didn’t think it was strange. He thought it might be a vehicle that might belong to one of his son’s friends,” explains Lt. Darwin Dwiggins with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
It didn’t take long for the victim to realize he was in trouble–he noticed his belongings being taken out of his home.
“He came on to the back of the house… the suspicious vehicle had a hatch that was wide open and he saw what was some of his stolen property in the back hatch,” said Dwiggins.
One of the two thieves hit the man as he tried to call for help the first time. The victim told dispatchers, “These guys are just breaking into my house. I pulled in and then next thing they came out and hit me and knocked me down.”
Authorities were able to get surveillance video from a gas station about a mile away. The camera caught what authorities believe to be the suspects in a 2000-2005 blue Chevy Trailblazer.
The victim was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
A family member of the victim told CBS4 that he’s resting after suffering bruises and swelling. If you know anything that could help authorities, call 765-646-4025.
