INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 8, 2015) - DaMoni Troutman's family and friends are coming together three months after his death to honor the memory of the vibrant 5-year-old.

DaMoni was accidentally shot and killed by his nine-year-old half-brother in November in the 1700 block of Century Circle South in the Oakbrook Park apartment complex. Their grandmother was watching three children, all siblings under the age of 10, in the apartment when one found a gun in the home. Officers arrived to find Troutman with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

While it's been a difficult few months for his family, they celebrated his life on Sunday with a balloon release and prayer ceremony. "Sometimes I think of DaMoni and I cry and I just can’t stop crying,” says DaMoni's grandmother, Terran Larkin. DaMoni's favorite super hero was Spiderman. Friends and family held Spiderman balloons, letting them go at the count of 5, and looking to the sky as they flew away. Larkin says, "he was a happy kid. He smiled all the time. So, I really believe he’s looking down on us smiling.” DaMoni would have turned 6-years-old on Monday.

Pastor Denell Howard of Hovey Street Church of Christ has supported the family through this difficult time. "We promise to let his memory live on forever, not just in the releasing of these balloons, but in the lives that we live," he says.

DaMoni's mother, Brittney Rodriguez fought for his father, Donahvon Troutman to attend the boy's funeral back in November. Donahvon Troutman was behind bars on weapons and drug charges. He was granted that request.

DaMoni's uncle, Richard Sansbury was charged with criminal recklessness on January 21st. DaMoni's family says it was Sansbury's gun used in the shooting.
