GREELEY, Colo. (Dec. 30, 2014) – A Colorado garbage man’s small act of kindness certainly didn’t go unnoticed, reports KDVR.

Jimmy James was picking up the trash when he saw a JCPenney gift card sitting on top of the pile. James thought it looked like the card hadn’t been used, so he retrieved it and had his driver check the balance.

When James realized the card still had $50 on it, he put it in his wallet and returned to the home after his shift. He gave it to Jason and Brenda Edwards.

“I had to stay on the back throwing trash and we kept working. I had him call it and check it and he told me what was on it,” James told KDVR. “There was $50, so I had him put it in my wallet for me and then when we got off work that day I went by Jason’s house.”

“It was kind of a shocker to me for sure,” Jason said. “I called my wife and told her, you’re never going to believe this guy… he just returned this card. It’s not a lot of money it’s just basically a simple principle that someone would take their time out to do something like that. It’s pretty cool.”

The family gave James an envelope containing $75 in cash to repay him for his kind act. On the outside, they wrote, “To Jimmy, Thank you for your honesty.”

James said the money wasn’t necessary, but graciously accepted it.

“That’s awesome man. That helps a lot,” he said. “They don’t know how much that helps. I don’t even know what to say. Christmas time, you know, you’re lucky to get a $10 tip, let alone … Wow man, I’m touched.”
